Why SEO is important for making sure businesses are found in internet searches.

Searching for goods and services on the internet is the new normal. Rarely will people review any listings beyond the first page of a Google result, which is why SEO is important. So, if you're one of the "Best Coffee Shops in Chicago" or a "Five Star Hotel in Boston," how do you ensure your website shows up on the first page? Employing proper SEO, or search engine optimization, techniques into a content marketing strategy makes it easier for customers find and reach your business. However, utilizing proper SEO requires incorporating keywords, meta descriptions, link building, title tags and more, which can get a little bit complicated for the average user.

Here are some of the key elements of SEO:

Content Management System—If the overarching goal for your business is to drive traffic to your website and generate leads, start with optimizing your website. Work with a user-friendly CMS or content management system, like Wordpress, that makes it easy to post updates and new content on your company blog page. Posting good content about your business will increase your website ranking and enhance search results.

Keywords—When writing content, the most important thing is to consider what services your customers are seeking out. What topics are they Googling to find businesses or services like yours? Think about those keywords, and build website content and blog posts around them to enhance search-ability. Address the keywords related to those topics in everything from blog posts through titles, headlines and more. That way, when the search engines come crawling, your most relevant content and services are easily found.

Meta Descriptions— A meta description comprises roughly three sentences, that tease the topic in a Google result. They feature the same keywords as the title, while explaining the purpose with a well-written and clear CTA, or call to action. A complete meta description shouldn't cut off or end with an ellipses, and should quickly describe the goal of the content. For example, a good meta description for this post is: Yakkety Yak explains why SEO is important for making sure businesses are found in internet searches, and how optimizing SEO can impact your bottom line.

See? Now that you know that SEO is not as complicated as you thought, it should be an integral part of your overall marketing strategy. A strong content marketing system that includes SEO guarantees not only that your target customers will find you, but that you’re reaching new visitors and driving more traffic to the site, resulting in new revenue-building opportunities.
